MANILA, Philippines – Electronics maker Oppo has come out with a new device that aims to beat the competition by shattering old records.
The company announced the R5 smartphone on Wednesday, October 29, taking note of the R5’s 4.85mm thinness as a selling point.
The R5 is equipped with a 2.1GHz octa-core Qualcomm processor and comes with a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear camera, and a 5 megapixel front camera.
The Oppo R5 runs on ColorOS, a modified version of Android.
Other features announced included a hand-polished shape which they call the Micro-Arc Frame – meant to fit perfectly in people’s hands.
Also of note is the “Cool Element” heat dissipation technology for protecting the central processing unit, preventing overheating.
The Philippine launch of the Oppo R5 is set for mid-December to mid-January, with the R5 costing P22,900 SRP. Oppo has yet to designate a Philippine carrier for this device, so the pricing does not have subsidies as of yet. – Rappler.com
