Microsoft launches Office for Android tablets
Microsoft says the apps are built specifically for Android tablets and optimized for touch functions, while retaining the core of each app

MANILA, Philippines – Microsoft on Thursday, January 29, rolled out Office staples Word, Excel, and Powerpoint for Android tablets.

Microsoft said the Office suite was built specifically for Android tablets and optimized for touch functions, while retaining the core of each app.

Just like its iOS counterpart, files can be extracted or saved to OneDrive or Dropbox, giving you the ability to edit files on the go.

Word maintained its basics: writing and editing text documents, adding images and tables to a document, and also tracking changes and adding comments.

Excel will support formulas, tables, charts, PivotTables, sorting, filtering and comments.

Powerpoint will have rich formatting and embedded video, transitions and animations.

Office will run for Android tablets with screen sizes of 7” to 10” only. If your screen is larger than this, you will need an Office 365 subscription to use the apps. The apps also need a minimum of 1GB RAM, an ARM based processor (e.g. Qualcomm Snapdragon) and Kitkat 4.4.

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are already available in the Google Play store for free, and can be used via Microsoft Office online account (You may register for free once you open the app). Premium features are locked for Office 365 subscribers only.

Support for Android Lollipop and Intel chipsets will be available in future updates. – Rappler.com
