MANILA, Philippines – World of Warcraft (WoW), the world’s largest massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG), announced Monday, March 2 (March 3, Manila time), that it will eventually introduce a special subscription payment service that aims to cut out gold sellers’ gains.
Dubbed the WoW token, the new feature will introduce an in-game item that lets players securely exchange in-game gold and game time between each other.
According to their announcement, feedback suggested two issues that could be served through the inclusion of the WoW Token system.
While some players wanted a secure, legitimate way to acquire gold without going through an unauthorized third-party gold-selling service, others with large amounts of gold were also looking for the ability to trade some to other players for game time to alleviate subscription costs somewhat.
“The WoW Token feature gives players on both sides of the equation a secure and straightforward way to make that exchange,” the company explained.
Similarly used other by other subscription-based MMORPGs, such as EVE Online and Wildstar, the feature lets players buy WoW Tokens through the in-game Blizzard Store interface for real money, then sell it on the Auction House for gold at the current market price.
Unlike EVE Online’s system, however, the item can only be sold once, disallowing reselling of the WoW tokens to avoid price manipulation and speculative trading.
The WoW Token will debut in an upcoming patch for World of Warcraft, through Blizzard has not announced a date for the introduction of the system. – Rappler.com
