Huawei’s P8 takes spotlight at CommunicAsia 2015
The P8 launch takes centerstage at one of the biggest ICT conferences in Asia

SINGAPORE – After its official reveal in London in April, Huawei Technologies unveiled its newest smartphone, the P8, in its Southern Pacific launch in Singapore on June 2.

The P8 product launch coincided with the CommunicAsia 2015, one of the region’s most comprehensive information and communications technology conference.

Huawei’s latest premium smartphone is its follow-up to last year’s P7. It is only 6.4 mm thin, but unlike its predecessor, its all-aluminum unibody makes the P8 sleek but more solid.

The P8 has a Hisilicon Kirin 930 octa-core 64-bit chipset and runs on the Android 5.0 operating system.

It also has a 5.2″ screen and a 2680mAh battery.

The P8 comes in mystic champagne and titanium grey colors.

The Huawei P8 features a ultra slim design with an all-aluminum unibody.

It is in its new camera design where the P8 really shines.

It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with a four-color RGBW sensor to capture more details during low-light and high-contrast situations.

The front camera is also nothing to scoff at, coming in at 8 megapixels.

The P8 also features what it calls the Director Mode where the P8 can link up to three more Android phones for multi-angle video filming and editing.

Users, on the other hand, can also creative by leaving striking light traces using the Light Paint function.

Huawei also introduced another member of the P series – the P8lite.

Like the P8, it is also equipped with a 13 megapixel rear camera. The front camera, though, is downgraded to just 5 megapixels.

At 5 inches, the P8lite’s screen is also smaller than the P8.

Dipping its fingers in wearable smart technology, the Chinese handset company also launched the Talkband B2, a smart band that can detach to become a headset. The B2 features an all-aluminum body with leather wristbands.

Huawei ventures in wearables technology with the Talkband B2.

The Talkband N1, on the other hand, is a smart headset with a built-in mp3 player. It has an 4GB memory that can play up to 7 hours of music or more than 1,000 songs.

It also has an accelerometer that can detect the number of your steps, distance travelled, and calories burned.

Also on display was the Huawei Watch which boasts smart connectivity and 40 customizable watch faces.

The P8 is priced at SG$699 or $519 while the P8lite is priced at SG$329 or $244. Huawei’s new consumer devices will be available in the Philippines this June.

No less than Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu presented the new P8 to the media, revealing that Huawei aims to become one of the top three brands in terms of market share in the Southern Pacific region.

“Southern Pacific is key part of our strategy to deepen and expand our presence in high-growth-high-potential-markets,” Yu said. – Rappler.com
