Facebook reaches 241 million users in South East Asia
Almost all of the users in South East Asia access Facebook through mobile

MANILA, Philippines – Facebook is dominating the Internet as it announced on Thursday, March 17, that it has reached 241 million users in South East Asia.

According to the announcement, which is the first time Facebook shared figures on the region, 94% of these people are using Facebook through mobile.

“Southeast Asia is a dynamic mobile first region, and the fastest growing for Facebook. Connecting more than 241 million people in Southeast Asia – and 49 million Filipinos – Facebook on to the friends and family, businesses and moments that matter to them is at the core of everything we do,” said Kenneth Bishop, Facebook Managing Director in Southeast Asia.

A new study from consultancy firm McKinsey & Company shows that half of all people on Facebook are connected to someone in a different country, a number which has tripled in the past year.

Facebook recently announced its 3 million active advertisers, a number that has grown by 50% in just one year. More than 66% of users in the Philippines are connected to a small and medium-sized business (SMB) page.

On March 9, the social media giant said that its Facebook Lite application has reached 100 million monthly active users 9 months since its global rollout on Android smartphones. In a post on its Facebook Code blog, the company added that the Philippines is one of the top 5 countries that use Facebook Lite, along with Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. – Rappler.com
