#TimeToAct Hangout: End Sexual Violence in Conflict

MANILA, Philippines – It’s the time to act and discuss how we can end sexual violence as a tool of war worldwide. 

Over 1,200 delegates from 113 countries converge in London for 4 days, from June 10-13, 2014, to join the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. The summit will be the largest gathering ever on the issue.

Ten Filipino women, who have played key roles in conflict resolution and peace-building in the Philippines, will represent the country. Secretary Teresita “Ging” Deles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process leads the delegation.

Also joining the delegation and representing the country in the Youth Day of the summit are Jill Angeli V Bacasmas and Ma. Reinna Salcedo Bermudez – the two young winners of a national essay competition. They were selected from over 200 applicants who expressed their thoughts on how to address the issue of sexual violence in areas of conflict and the role of women as agents of change to prevent a culture of impunity. 

The Filipino delegation is sponsored by the British and Australian embassies.
