Ray of hope in Loon, Bohol

The Loon church was levelled to the ground. Families lost their homes. But rescuers digging through the rubble find the town’s most precious treasure.

Today (October 20) a ray of hope shines bright for Loon locals. Minutes before 3pm Sunday mass begins, rescue teams recover the image of our Lady of Light and the church’s crucifix.

Locals say it’s a welcome break from all the hardships that they’ve been going through.

Loon is slowly picking itself up, 5 days after a magnitude 7.2 quake hit Central Visayas, the virtually isolated town finally gets the help it needs.

Water, relief goods are coming in as rescuers continue to retrieve more missing bodies.

We spoke to local officials and they say to move forward the town needs structural engineers to inspect houses, so that residents can know once and for all if they still have homes to return to.
