PALEA: Renewed negotiations
Since its members were "locked out" from their jobs on September 11, 2011 PALEA has maintained a protest camp outside of the Philippine Airlines in-flight services. PAL implemented an outsourcing program and violently ejected the union members from their posts. Members of PALEA, some who had been working for more than thirty years, refuse to accept scanty severance packages or jobs in the newly-created contracting firms that would cut their wages in half.
PALEA staged a protest on September 27, 2012 to mark the one year anniversary of their protest. The next day, at the Philippine Airlines (PAL) stockholders meeting COO Ramon Ang stated: "We have a good starting point, and I hope to be able to find a solution, to look for a middle ground." Ang was referring to renewed meetings with PALEA officers where both sides called for a speedy resolution to the labor dispute.
Morale remains high at the camp. This video follows PALEA members while they prepare lunch, and as they protest at the Malacañan. - Rappler.com
