US RETAINS CUSTODY OF PEMBERTON DESPITE TRANSFER

The suspect in the murder of transgender woman Jennifer Laude has transferred to Camp Aguinaldo, but he remains under the custody of the United States.
According to the Visiting Forces Agreement or VFA between the Philippines and the United States, the US has a right to retain custody from the “commission of the alleged offense until completion of all judicial proceedings.”
But the VFA also allows the Philippine government to ask for custody.
The department of Foreign Affairs did this in the case of US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton.
