COURT STOPS JUNJUN BINAY’S SUSPENSION
Makati city mayor Junjun Binay remains in office.
The Court of Appeals issues a temporary restraining order or TRO against the preventive suspension filed by the Ombudsman against Binay.
The suspension was supposed to take effect Monday…
with Vice Mayor Romulo Pena taking his oath as acting mayor early in the morning.
Pena, a former Binay ally, vows to “cleanse” city hall.
But Binay was defiant, telling people to await the court’s decision.

JUNJUN BINAY, MAKATI MAYOR: Nasa hukuman na po ang aking kaso, at bahagi naman po ito ng legal na proseso. Kinukuwestyon po natin ang suspension order na wala namang basehan at di po naaayon sa batas.

(My case is already in the appellate court, and this is part of the legal process. We’re questioning here the baseless suspension order.)

Binay locked himself up in the city hall for five days in defiance of the suspension.

FEW THOUSANDS LEFT IN CORONA COUPLE’S BANK ACCOUNTS
Anti-graft court Sandiganbayan sheriffs find only a little over P7,500 left in the bank accounts of former chief justice Renato Corona and his wife Cristina.
The Coronas were served writs of attachment in connection with a P130.6-million forfeiture case. 
An attachment on a bank account freezes it, preventing a depositor from withdrawing money.
In the case of the Coronas, the court order came only after the bank accounts had been drained.
The former chief justice was ousted in 2012 and faces charges of ill-gotten wealth.

AID EFFORT STEPPED UP AFTER MONSTER VANUATU CYCLONE

Vanuatu’s President Baldwin Lonsdale says the humanitarian need is immediate and they need international funding to rebuild the infrastructure the cyclone destroyed.

TENNIS STAR ANDY MURRAY FAVORS MAYWEATHER OVER PACQUIAO
British tennis star and avid boxing fan Andy Murray weighs in his prediction for the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight on May 2.
Murray says Mayweather has two things in his favor: Las Vegas home-crowd advantage and his superb defense.
He says if it goes to the scorecards, it would be tough for Pacquiao to win.
