Rappler Talk: How can PH make the peace process work?

MANILA, Philippines – What are the prospects for peace in Mindanao given the delay in the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro basic law? What’s being done on the ground to keep the momentum for peace and to ensure that the initial victories in the peace process are not put to waste?

Rappler talked to Lord Jack McConnell, a member of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom. The British government has been a key supporter of the peace process between the Aquino administration and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). McConnell just arrived from Mindanao where he met with key MILF officials and other sectors involved in the peace process.

During his last and previous visits and in his talks with peace advocates, he drew parallels between the establishment of devolved government in Scotland and in the Bangsamoro.  McConnell spent two years as the British Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Peace Building. He also played a key role in the legislation and implementation of the devolved government in Scotland, and served as First Minister there for 6 years. – Rappler.com
