MANILA, Philippines – By 2050 the world’s population is expected to reach 9 billion – that’s about 2 billion more today. The growing number of people, combined with increased prosperity, will place more pressure on vital resources of energy, water and food – a phenomenon known as the “stress nexus”.

As more of us move into cities, resource scarcity becomes an even greater threat.

So what does the future hold?

Shell, as a leading energy company, brought together representatives from government, business and society to discuss this challenge. The Powering Progress Together forum aims to spark debate around how to remain resilient in a changing world.

This year, the Philippines will be the first country in Asia to host the global platform, welcoming around 350 thought leaders from the public, private and civil sectors.

Why is it important to learn about the stress nexus and our changing environment? How will every individual be affected by this global dilemma? What can be done to remain resilient and ensure we will have enough energy, water and food?
