Trotsenburg heads the World Bank’s strategy in supporting the region and helping address its four mainchallenges: natural disasters, poverty and equality, infrastructure, and urbanization.

Previously, Trotsenburg was the World Bank’s Vice-President for Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships. He also led policy negotiations and replenishment processes for the International Development Association, the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries. From 2002 to 2009, Trotsenburg served as the Country Director in various Latin American countries, including Mexico, Argentina and Colombia.

On his first visit to Manila this July, Trotsenburg will meet with various leaders on how the World Bank can align its emerging assistance strategy with the Philippines’ inclusive growth agenda for the next three years.Trotsenburg is also scheduled to meet with President Benigno Aquino III, his economic team, and other top government officials.

In the first quarter of 2013, the Philippines’ economy grew by 7.8 percent, the highest in East Asia. Despite this success, the Philippines is still part of a region where half a billion people live on less than $2 a day. The World Bank supports the government’s Philippine Development Plan, with a total commitment of over $2.04 billion and an additional US$910 million in commitments from the the International Finance Corporation, the Bank’s private sector arm.

Trotsenburg will speak to Rappler about the World Bank’s work and what he thinks are solutions to persistent problems that hamper development. He will also talk about the World Bank’s new twin goals of reducing extreme poverty by 2030 and pushing for shared prosperity in every country.
