VATICAN CITY, Italy - German financier Ernst von Freyberg was named the new president of the Vatican bank on Friday, ending a nearly 9-month vacancy after his predecessor at the secretive institution was unceremoniously sacked.

"The Commission of Cardinals for the Institute for the Works of Religion has made an appointment... of the new president of the supervisory board in the person of Ernst von Freyberg," the Vatican said in a statement. – Rappler.com
