Jokowi condemns suicide blast in Pakistan

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Indonesian president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday, March 28, condemned the Pakistan bombings on his Twitter account, a day after an explosion killed at least 65 people and injured around 200 people in the country’s southwestern city of Lahore on Sunday.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the bomb attack in Lahore. Acts of terror cannot be justified for any reason. My deepest condolences to the victims and the people of Pakistan -Jkw,” the tweet said in Bahasa Indonesia.

The explosion took place on Sunday evening in a crowded park filled with Christian families celebrating Easter. A breakaway Pakistani faction of the militant Taliban group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

Indonesia, the country with the biggest Muslim population in the world, is no stranger to terrorism. The latest attack in January targeted the Thamrin area in Central Jakarta, which killed 8 people including 4 attackers. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Southeast Asian nation has also suffered several major bomb attacks by Islamic radicals between 2000 and 2009, including the 2002 strike on the resort island of Bali that killed 202 people.
