Porn on videotron caused by ‘hack’? Police not so quick to agree
The company says the videotron streaming porn was hacked, but police continue to investigate to determine whether that was indeed the cause

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A videotron that showed porn and took social media by storm is believed to have been hacked, but police have a different theory.

On Friday, September 30, social media erupted after a videotron in Jakarta showed an adult movie, shocking commuters stuck in traffic. Locals soon started to post photos and videos of the clip on social media, causing #videotron to trend on Twitter.

Shortly after the incident, the company renting the videotron said the adult movie was a result of a hack.

“We have detected a breach and discovered that our content was taken over by someone who sent us a virus. It was sabotage and hacking,” PT transit Adiman Jati Transit Advertising manager Adrian Wiedarta told local media.

The company’s spokesperson, Widi Krastawan, also said over the weekend that the incident is a “possible cyber crime.”

He said all other videotrons being rented by the company across the city has been turned off, since “there is a chance that the other videotrons we operate have also been hacked.”

But the police are not as quick to jump on board the idea that it was indeed a hack that caused the incident.

“We want to find out whether or not the incident was unintentional or caused by hacking,” said Jakarta Police spokesperson Awi Setiyono.

Setiyono said the police are continuing to investigate and are interviewing witnesses such as operators of the videotron, but no suspects have yet been named.

He also confirmed that the computer operating the videotron was connected to the internet, which opens the possibility of hacking, but also of a technician or operator mistakenly airing the porn film he or she was watching on the videotron.

On Friday afternoon, a 24-square meter videotron in Jalan Prapanca, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, started streaming a porn video featuring an Asian woman.

In the video, the woman is first seen with a man and later, the two engaging in sexual acts, with the woman seen making erotic facial expressions.

Upon receiving reports from residents, the Jakarta Provincial Government immediately cut off the screen’s power. The film streamed for about 5 minutes before it was taken down.
