Gretchen Barretto’s mom calls her ‘liar’

MANILA, Philippines – “You are a liar, Gretchen. Many of your preys will attest to that soon. That is the syle that you use when you want to play with other people’s lives!”

The twists and turns of the lives of the Barretto sisters never quite prepared us for this: an angry open letter of their mother Inday, who said she’s taking the side of Claudine Barretto in this ugly family quarrel.

In the letter published by the Philippine Star’s FunFare on Wednesday, April 24, the Barretto matriarch came out swinging against Gretchen’s “manipulative ways,” complaining about how she’s been harassing her sister Claudine through text messages and on social media. Inday called Gretchen a “liar” for claiming that Claudine suffered from “”mental illness.”

Gretchen reportedly released statements about Claudine wanting to keep her “teleserye princess” title to herself by hindering Julia Barretto’s (Marjorie Barretto’s daughter) entry into ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. “That Claudine will ruin Julia’s career? Why would she? Next to Marjorie, no one can love those children more than Claudine!”

She pleads, “Huwag mo namang gawing tanga ang mga tao Gretchen (Don’t make us all fools, Gretchen). They and we all know Claudine holds no power over the industry … Who do you think Claudine is — the Evil Queen of Bhutan?”

On the subject of Claudine’s equally controversial marital life, Inday confirms in the statement that Claudine and husband Raymart Santiago are no longer living under one roof. She, however, said she respects the couple’s decision, unlike Gretchen who has taken to social media to comment negatively on the matter.

“I also witnessed you, Gretchen, when you were throwing expensive plates and vases at that time I was called to go to your place because nagwawala ka (you were hysterical) and you were threatening to swallow pills.”

Inday said she was dismayed by her daughter’s public demeanor, saying it reflected poorly on her and her husband.

The mother ends by saying, “I am letting go of a child who never wanted me in order to save one who has always been there for all, and with all her love… Claudine!” – with reports from Ira Agting/Rappler.com
