Rappler team portfolio shortlisted in Data Journalism Awards 2019
MANILA, Philippines – Rappler's team portfolio, a series of data stories on social media, disinformation, and democracy, was shortlisted in the Data Journalism Awards 2019.
It was nominated for the "Best data journalism team portfolio (Large newsroom)" category.
The portfolio submitted was a series of stories on Rappler's research on social media and disinformation based on data from fact checks. The series aims to inform readers on how these impact media and democracy.
Among the articles included in the portfolio are a look at press freedom two years into President Rodrigo Duterte's administration, research on the pages that Facebook took down in 2018, a story on how a Russian disinformation system influences Philippine social media, and a story on how the term "expert" can mislead online.
A total of 103 projects out of 607 were shortlisted for the award this year.
The winners will be announed at the GEN Summit in Athens, Greece, on June 14.
Winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Athens, Greece from June 13 to 15 for the GEN Summit + Data Journalism Awards 2019 ceremony.
