Aika Rey covers the Philippine Senate for Rappler. Before reporting on politics, she covered budget, labor, and transportation issues.
Before joining the team of reporters, she managed campaigns for Rappler’s MovePH. There, she found the value of data in journalism. She spearheaded #SaferRoadsPH, which inspired local road safety policies. In 2018, its microsite won the SEMRush Data Journalism Website award. Her work on road safety issues earned her a spot for a fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in political science from the Ateneo de Manila University, and took courses in European law at the Faculté Libre de Droit and Literature in Faculté Libres des Lettres et Sciences Humaines in Lille, France.
When she’s not writing, Aika takes care of her plants and plays with data. She’s convinced data journalism is the future of journalism.
