Buena Bernal is an odd person trying to be square from time to time, passionately pursuing her goals and going through life with reckless abandon.
Previously a writer-coordinator for Rappler's civic engagement arm MovePH, Buena reported about and dabbled on various advocacies including healthcare reform, LGBT rights, marine protection, and women empowerment.
She also developed and managed Rappler's core citizen journalists while at MovePH.
Formerly a court reporter, Buena is now a labor reporter producing multimedia content.
She believes a story is always over and above the writer's personality.
She studied journalism at the University of Santo Tomas (UST). She was president and team captain of the university's official debate varsity team, the Thomasian Debaters Council.
She then coached the team for a good two years, after being elected as a member of its Advisory Council. She learned one of life's most crucial lessons as a coach: that relationships are more important than one's ego.
