About Jodesz Gavilan
Jodesz Gavilan is a writer and researcher for Rappler and its investigative arm, Newsbreak. She covers human rights and also hosts the weekly podcast, Newsbreak: Beyond the Stories, which aims to make sense of people, events, and controversies dominating the news cycle.
She obtained her journalism degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman and joined Rappler in 2014. Her first assignment was writing stories for Rappler’s #HungerProject, a platform that tackled poverty and malnutrition issues in the Philippines.
Aside from writing, Jodesz spends most of her time reading and counts historical fiction as her favorite genre. The first thing she does in a new place is check out the neighborhood bookstore.
