A native of Jersey City, N.J., Ryan has been a reporter since 2006. He is a member of the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) and is currently a staff reporter for The Ring magazine. He has written for the New York Daily News, USA Today, Esquire Philippines, Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star.

Ryan is a fan of music artists Nine Inch Nails, My Chemical Romance, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, Wu Tang Clan and MF Doom. His favorite television shows are Third Rock from the Sun, The Adventures of Pete and Pete and Cowboy Bebop, and his favorite movies are Good Will Hunting and Cable Guy.

Ryan also lectures at colleges around the Philippines and can be found roaming about Metro Manila on random jeepneys or ordering a Dirty Tanqueray Martini with two olives at your local public house.
