MANILA, Philippines – The new year gives us all a new chance to prove to ourselves that we can achieve better things this 2014, that we can be better beings. Care to show us or tell us your plan?

Have you made any new year’s resolutions? Maybe an even better question is: Do you plan on keeping them for the rest of 2014?

In case you need an extra push to keep you motivated, here are some tips on how to keep your new year’s resolutions:

1. Keep a journal. Note down your resolutions and remind yourself every day of why you want to achieve what you wrote down. Maybe even put some footnotes telling you to not quit.

2. Have a theme for this year. Instead of having a bunch of things to do, you can try an alternative: have a theme for this year, let’s say health and your things to achieve for the year can revolve around the goal of being healthy (i.e eat healthy, exercise, etc.)

3. Talk to your friends about your plans. If you keep it to yourself, there’s a higher possibility of you forgetting it or putting it off. Your friends can motivate you and remind you of your goals throughout 2014.

4. Have a timeline. Make sure you have short-term goals and long-term goals. Maybe setting a timeline to see your progress will keep you interested in keeping your resolutions.

5. Start the transformation from within. If your values aren’t aligned with what you do, then you might not succeed. Discipline yourself and be realistic with your goals.

There are other ways to keep your resolutions, but most important is to keep a positive attitude and know that there are no limits. Of course, you can’t let labels or stereotypes hold you back as well.

You can travel the world, lead an active lifestyle, do better in school, be more adventurous, be the employee of the month – the list goes on. But sometimes, the difficult part is to put them into action.

To be the best, you must know that you are empowered to make your own decisions and make them happen. It may be challenging to begin your transformation – it always is – but if you put in extra effort, you’ll get there. There will always be challenges, situations, people or maybe even thoughts, that will hold you back.

Make a statement and share it with us and the rest of those who want to make transformations this year. Be empowered and whip away those labels and stereotypes that prevent you from shining.
