MANILA, Philippines — The channel-based TV is a thing of the past.

Today, families can stream blockbuster movies, watch international sporting events, and play online games on their sets — all thanks to one small box.

PLDT HOME launched the TVolution at the East Wing of Shangri-La Mall last February 8. The device turns your TV into an Internet-capable set that can stream exclusive content to PLDT  HOME Fibr subscribers.

“We are entering into the multimedia space,” says Gary Dujali, PLDT VP and head of HOME Fibr broadband. “This allows you to enjoy your broadband not just from your computers, but bring the experience to your TV screens. So with your TVolution and a powerful broadband connection from Fibr, you’d be able to bond with your family… so you can watch movies, play games, and a whole lot more.”

Bloggers and media personalities dropped by to experience the versatile entertainment experience. Among those in attendance were players from the PLDT HOME Fibr Pachanga Diliman Football Club. They shared with Rappler how they use strong internet connections at home.

Deo Seguinal and Davide Cortina are both online gaming enthusiasts. “I play Heroes of Newerth and Ragnarok,” Seguinal shared. “Sometimes I play football. And sometimes, strategy games like Combat and Conquer,” Cortina added.

“I like to be in contact with my parents from Germany and Italy; and friends from Europe,” said Reza Amirkhizan.

Andres Gonzalez shared how online content helps him improve their game. “Right now, I use the Internet to download videos of football games and some coaching materials because I also coach.”

Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith relies on fast internet primarily to keep in touch. “Online I like to catch up on Twitter, Instagram, and other updates on social media – everything that everyone does here in Manila, we are the social media capital after all,” she shared. She also uses video call to catch up with her mom and brother in Australia and dad in Pampanga. “It’s the easiest way to receive videos of people you miss so it feels like you’re there, cliche and cheesy as it may sound,” she added.

So what else is in store for PLDT HOME’s new and current subscribers?

“Right now it’s really about movies… you can choose from over 200 titles. Expect that to double or more than double in the next few months,” Gary answered. He says to expect more movie outfits to partner with PLDT HOME to provide more streaming content in the coming months.

The company is also gearing up to start offering livestream activities of more international game events. This month, they’ve road-tested the offer by airing the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics for PLDT HOME Fibr and PLDT HOME DSL subscribers. Since it proved to be a success, Gary says to watch out for more. “There’s one coming soon – the Youth Olympics,” he said.

The TVolution is available with a P199 add-on to a new or existing Fibr plan. Also available to subscribers of PLDT HOME DSL high-speed plans. — Rappler.com
