Movie-inspired outfits for the stylish you

MANILA, Philippines – Need some ideas to spiff up your wardrobe? Instead of looking at glossy magazines or blogs, why not draw inspiration from movie characters?

We’ve put together some outfits inspired by the personality and style of some memorable characters in a number of currently screening or upcoming movies.

Here are our picks with a modern twist:

ABNKKBSNPLAko?! The Movie

It’s finally happening.

The movie adaptation of best selling author Bob Ong’s first book, ABNKKBSNPLAko?! (Aba, Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako?!), is now showing in cinemas nationwide. The throwback movie inspired us to put together outfits reflecting the style and personalities of Roberto “Bob” Ong (Jericho Rosales) and his best friend Portia (Meg Imperial).

Roberto ‘Bob’ Ong

Your school uniform may not be the your first source of inspiration for your daily wardrobe but it doesn’t have to be a white shirt paired with black slacks.

We stil managed to keep the school boy image with this look and kept it stylish and comfortable.

‘Her’

The movie is set in the future where writing letters is a paid job, and where every individual has a personal relationship with their computer’s operating system as if its a real person.

Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), is a writer who is in the process of finalizing his divorce from his wife. He goes on a blind date, portrayed by Olivia Wilde, in hopes of falling in love – yet he unexpectedly falls in love with his computer’s operating system named Samantha.

Surprisingly, the clothes they wore in the film weren’t much different from what we wear today and all men sported high waisted pants. The style and color palette were simple.

So we played around a bit to make it more modern and edgy. Here are some of the looks we’ve put together to embody the lonely and geeky writer and his blind date ready for a night out.

Theodore Twombly

For this look, we kept it simple but still added a bit of personality. Theodore usually wore a tucked in shirt with rolled up sleeves and slacks. In this look, we chose a pink plaid shirt and paired it with blue pants to make the look updated but still keeping the simplicity of the outfit shown in the film.

STYLISH INTROVERT. Sport a tucked in plaid shirt just like Theodore Twombly.

Pink plaid shirt from Uniqlo, demin jeans from Cotton On, suede shoes and Penguin Reserve perfume both from Penguin, belt from Basic House

Blind Date

Having a night out with some friends is a fun way experiment with your clothes. Of course, you’d want to stand out from the crowd the right way. Try pairing a printed dress with a gold necklace and bright colored pumps and be the life of the party.

This can also work as a day look when having lunch or coffee with some friends.

GLAM, FUN AND FIERCE. Be the life of the party or look fierce for your lunch date.

Floral printed dress, gold necklace, sun glasses and yellow pumps all from River Island

‘Saving Mr. Banks’

This movie takes place in the 1960s, looking back into the process of how Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) pursued writer PL Travers (Emma Thompson) to be able to adapt her beloved book character, Mary Poppins, to the big screen.

PL Travers kept it classy and sophisticated while Walt Disney always presented his dapper self with his crisp suit and tie. This movie inspired us to come up with vintage inspired looks yet with a modern twist to it.

PL Travers

Although we didn’t put together a look very similar to the movie character, we reflected the classy and sophisticated personality of PL Travers in this outfit. Something suitable when having lunch with some friends or what to wear for work.

Add a pop of color with the red flats which also keeps your feet comfortable.

SOPHISTICATED ENGLISH LADY. Channel your inner P.L Travers with the classy striped top and khaki chinos.

Khaki chinos from Uniqlo, striped top from Basic House, red flats from Cocorose, sunglasses from River Island, pearl necklace from Claire’s

Walt Disney

This modern day Walt Disney look can be worn straight to grab a couple of drinks with some friends. We still managed to make this outfit perfect for the confident guy who likes to keep it clean and stylish.

CLEAN AND CRISP. Look like a gentleman with this outfit perfect for a night out after work.
