WATCH: Why solving hunger matters
A panel of experts and advocates will discuss hunger and malnutrition in the PH. Tune in on Wednesday, March 15 at 4 pm to find out what you can do to help

MANILA, Philippines – The fight against hunger and malnutrition is far from over.

It’s affecting families, especially children, who need the right nutrients to develop their bodies and minds as they grow.

Since last year, the stunting rate among Filipino children below 5 years old has been at its worst for the past decade, according to a report from Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-FNRI). Chronic malnutrition and stunted growth are correlated.

The good news is that this issue can be solved in this lifetime. The public and private sector need to work together to give poor families better access to proper food and healthcare.

Even ordinary people can do their part, too.

United for Healthier Kids (U4HK), a partnership launched by Nestlé Philippines, has been educating people about child hunger and malnutrition and inspiring them to act against the problem.

But one program can only do so much and hunger and malnutrition among the youth remain one of the most difficult issues to eradicate.

On Wednesday, March 15, let’s discuss the state of hunger and malnutrition in the country, and how we can resolve it once and for all with small but impactful steps.

Join our panel of experts and advocates on Wednesday at 4 pm as they talk about how anyone can be a part of the solution.

Our panel includes:

  • Paolo Mercado, Senior Vice President for Communication, Marketing, and Innovation of Nestlé Philippines Inc.
  • Dr. Mario Capanzana, Director, Food and Nutrition Research Institute, Department of Science and Technology

The roundtable discussion will be hosted by Rappler CEO and Executive Editor Maria Ressa.

During the roundtable, you can also join and share your reactions and questions online. Just use the hashtag #HangryAboutHunger. – Rappler.com
