Mang Inasal launches ‘Gawad Pilipinoy’ to honor modern-day heroes
'Gawad Pilipinoy' is an awards program that recognizes Filipinos who are making a difference to the local community

[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a press release from Mang Inasal]

MANILA, Philippines – Mang Inasal, the country’s leading Pinoy BBQ restaurant, celebrates this year’s National Heroes Day by launching the Gawad Pilipinoy Awards. This is the brand’s first-ever recognition program for local modern-day heroes who use their skills and passion to be of service to others.

Gawad Pilipinoy seeks to recognize outstanding individuals who share their talents to the community through a selfless advocacy. These Filipinos represent “Galing na Pinoy” by fulfilling a passion or vocation that uplifts the plight of less fortunate individuals.

“Just like Mang Inasal that has been steadily and successfully penetrating the branded eat-out industry with superior taste and customer service, this year’s Gawad Pilipinoy awardee stands out because he shares his talents for the good of others,” Mang Inasal’s Marketing Head, Aileen Ricasata-Natividad, shares.

She adds, “He exemplifies 2-in-1 sa galing na Pinoy qualities by striking a balance between fulfilling his passion and being of service to the country and his fellowmen.”

Mang Inasal is known for its “2-in-1 sa laki, nuot sa ihaw sarap” chicken inasal which has catapulted the homegrown Filipino brand to market leadership in its category.

Champion for learning

To mark the awards program’s maiden year, Mang Inasal has named Adrian Karl L. Cobardo as its first ever Gawad Pilipinoy honoree. Cobardo, a teacher by profession, is the founder of BangKarunugan, an advocacy program which aims to cultivate the love of reading among children. Cobardo provides free and accessible education to the people in the islands using a bangka (boat).

According to Cobardo, BangKarunungan was inspired by his love for books, storytelling, and playing with kids.

“When I was a kid, I didn’t have books. So I promised myself that someday I will bring joy and hope to kids by bringing them books and telling them stories. Ang puso ko talaga ay malapit sa mga bata. Alam ko na marami silang pangarap at gusto kong mabuhay sila na naniniwala na maganda ang daigdig – na sa kabila ng kahirapan at kasalatan sa buhay ay mag-aral sila para hindi sila apihin o maapakan ang karapatan nila,” he shared.

(I truly have a heart for kids. I know that kids have lots of dreams and I want them to see the beauty of the world despite the hardships. Getting an education will empower them to defend themselves.)
