BDO launches Diners Club by BDO
BDO introduces new credit cards catering to luxury dining and travel to its roster

MANILA, Philippines – Local financial giant BDO Unibank, Inc. is now the exclusive issuer of Diners Club International Credit Cards in the Philippines.

This newly-forged partnership between BDO and American financial services company Discover, which owns Diners Club International, was formally launched in a media event at the Sage Bespoke Grill, Makati Shangri-La on May 24, Thursday.

“We’re so excited to have BDO on as the Diners franchise here in the Philippines. This is an incredibly important market to Diners Club International, and having a partner like BDO is incredibly fantastic for us,” Joe Hurley, Senior Vice President and head of Global Business Development for Discover told members of the press.

Established in 1950, Diners Club International holds the distinction of being the first multi-purpose charge card in the world. Initially a mere cardboard card, it’s credited to have reshaped the world of global finance through the years.

“Diners is a card that’s been there for quite some time. The challenge really for us – and it’s exciting – is how do you make an old, durable card like Diners, a very strong brand, into something that keeps evolving because of the target market that’s getting younger, more digital?

“We wracked our brains a lot about doing that. It keeps us alive, keeps us always on our toes,” Roland C. Tanchangco, BDO Executive Vice President and Consumer Lending Group Head, said.

Credit cards that ‘improve luxury beyond measure’

Two types of credit cards will be issued under this partnership: BDO Diners Club International Credit Card and BDO Diners Club Premiere Credit Card.

Both cards afford its holders a host of benefits including access to more than 800 airport lounges worldwide; free travel insurance; and other global offers on dining, travel, and entertainment.

Best of all, cardholders who are also frequent travelers would be happy to know that by using these cards, they get 1 instant mile for every P50 and P30 peso purchase, respectively – one of the lowest spend requirements to earn miles in the industry – that they can earn even faster when they avail the Miles Booster Programs.

The BDO Diners Club Credit Cards are the newest additions to BDO’s extensive line-up of credit card offerings – the largest and widest in the Philippines.

“As an ideal complement to our credit cards business line, we introduce the BDO Diners Club Credit Cards to further expand the dining and travel perks and privileges we offer our cardholders,” Tanchangco said in a press release.
