Why we need to stay at home: A coronavirus explainer for kids
Help kids cope by making them watch this video

MANILA, Philippines – Not being able to go to school, missing playtime with friends, seeing their family members worried every time they watch the news on TV are just some of the factors that can affect a child’s mental health during an outbreak. Now more than ever, parents need to make an effort to manage their children’s emotions.

“Parents should have a calm, proactive conversation with their children about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and the important role children can play in keeping themselves healthy,” said Dr. Lisa Damour, a psychologist and a New York Times columnist.

To help kids ages 5 to 10 years old understand how they can keep their family safe from COVID-19, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is launching a campaign to teach them the importance of good personal hygiene habits and staying at home during the enhanced community quarantine.

UNDP believes in the power of young people to shape a better world. This is the same reason why they chose to tap young singer Darren Espanto as UNDP Youth Advocate to translate their message of children empowerment during this difficult time.
