We Filipinos are festive people. When there’s a celebration, that usually means tables full of our favorite dishes and even guilty pleasures. But this 2021, we also have to be extra conscious about the food we eat.
Now that we just celebrated the Chinese New Year (CNY), it’s time for everyone to truly take our new year’s resolutions seriously. This is especially important for people who have type 2 diabetes, as they are more likely to develop other types of diseases; one of these unknown dangers is cardiovascular diseases. This is exactly what the “For Your SweetHeart” campaign wants us to know and understand.
In this roundtable, we will talk about the relationship between type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular health: How critical are diet and lifestyle changes to a diabetic’s overall health? How can they practice these properly during holiday celebrations such as CNY? How at risk are diabetics, really, of suffering from cardiovascular complications?
We will discuss these things with the usual stakeholders: a person with diabetes, a carer, and a doctor.
Our speakers are:
- Kim Atienza, “For Your SweetHeart” Ambassador
- Dr. Jeremy Robles, Philippine Society of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism (PSEDM) President
- Johanah Co, Diabetes Advocate
This roundtable discussion will be moderated by host Issa Litton.
