MANILA, Philippines — Love is a battlefield, so goes the Pat Benatar song. For women who have loved and lost, and endured being stereotyped and labeled for the sake of being loved, the battle waged on.

But that was then.

Nowadays, women try to challenge expectations about how they ought to be in a relationship. Women also try to focus on other forms of love. Love could be transcended, and love could be refashioned into something deeper and more meaningful. There are many ways to frame this thing called love, and it takes a matter of empowered perspective to do so.

In 2014, many women are choosing to whip away labels of discomfort when it comes to love, living, relationships, and surviving.
