MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)– Thinking and planning for the future is something we all do. It’s why we pursue what we want and it’s why we grit down and persevere even on a bad day.
But how far down the road do you look?
Let’s say you’ve finally retired in your dream home and all of your kids are living comfortable lives. Then what? Does planning for your future stop there?
Of course not.
How you would like to go or how you would like to be remembered by your loved ones is not something you normally get excited about. It’s not a topic talked about between friends while you’re drinking red wine or during a casual brunch with your mom.
But we all have to eventually think about death no matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel – yes, even when you’re young and still gunning for that all-time dream.
Since no one can escape death, it’s much better to look at it differently. Think of it as your last hurrah, your last major statement to your loved ones. How do you want them to remember you by?
No need to make it sad or depressing, you can celebrate the wonderful years you’ve spent living on this earth by making people happy.
If there’s a saying that “You only live once,” and it can be the reason why you do whatever you want, well, then it makes even better sense to say, “You only die once.”
Now it’s your excuse to go all out and leave this world with a bang.
Celebrate life
People may have more pressing priorities other than choosing the right theme for their funeral. But leaving your loved ones behind, and whether it’s with a lasting impression, will also affect how they’ll cope with a loss.
Make it count. Enjoy life but be prepared for your future so your family can, too. Here are ways to make the most out of life and make an impression when you make the final curtain call.
Go for it
It is easy to say but definitely harder to do, of course. But realize that planning now is crucial. There may not always be time or an opportunity to take the risk.
Make time for family and friends
Life is unpredictable. So don’t forget the important things in life. It’s not all about building your career because at the end of the day those who will support you and love you unconditionally are not your colleagues (not always, at least) but your family and true friends. Make time for them while you still can.
Be prepared
Relieve your relatives of the burden of planning your goodbye. It will be a sad day, but it doesn’t have to be full of tears and condolences. It can be a celebration of life. It can be an extension of who you are and an event reflecting how you want to be remembered.
You have a choice. You can still be a rock star or the life of the party until your last moments in this world. Be as creative as you want since, as mentioned, you only die once.
Make your own bucket list
It goes to show that you dictate your own life and that you make your own rules. Don’t let anyone tell you how to live. Decide how you will bid farewell to the world.
Have fun
Life is not always about making it big. It’s inevitable to have failure and disappointment at some point.
However, that is no excuse not to enjoy life. Learn how to look at the bright side of things and celebrate your life.
At the end of the day, pun intended, it really is up to you. So think out of the box and make your last goodbye count. – Rappler.com
