MANILA, Philippines – Before you reach out for your pack of cigarettes or ignore your chronic cough, think again. Think about your health and your loved ones’ well-being. There are many reasons to change and live a healthier lifestyle.

There are 17.3 million adult Filipino smokers – 14.6 million are male while 2.8 million are female. Of these, on average, men smoke 11 cigarettes a day while females smoke 7 cigarettes a day. 1

We all know that smoking is bad for our health. We hear about all kinds of diseases and we can read about government warnings on the packs of cigarettes. But do we even understand the risk we take every time we light our cigarette? Do we really know all the diseases that we can develop?

COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is one such disease. Did you know that it is among the 10 leading causes of death in the Philippines? 2

Unfortunately, only a few people know about COPD. This leads to late diagnosis, worsening of symptoms and even death for some patients.

Take action. Be informed and do your part.
