MANILA, Philippines – How much TV are you watching these days?

If you’re going to say “not a lot,” consider these titles: Boardwalk Empire. Doctor Who.  The Walking Dead. Movies. Reality shows. Awards coverage. Local variety shows. You probably caught most of these episodes and live events on your flat screen at home, or in the lobby and office TVs that populate your life.

We’ve been sounding the death knell on television for a while now, thanks to the explosion of digital video and Internet streaming in the past few years. But are we really watching less TV?

Here in the Philippines, US channels still dominate cable and satellite-broadcast content. According to Nielsen’s latest cross-platform report, Americans are still watching shows on television – via cable and HD content – more than any other medium. Digital consumption is on the rise, but TV is still there.

Recall the two weeks you spent waking up at the crack of dawn during the recent Wimbledon Open. Or leaving the TV set on, to keep visiting guests entertained. Your TV habits may just be changing, but not necessarily waning.

On Saturday, November 15, let’s discuss: are you still watching television? Does High-Definition (HD) change the game? What do you like watching, and what forecasts do you have the humble box? We want to hear from you.

This conversation was held last Saturday, November 15 from 4 to 6 pm using the hashtag #StateOfTV. – Rappler.com
