MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – If you’re not a morning person, waking up is hard to do. That sluggish feeling when you open your eyes, coupled with the comfort of your bed, just makes it so tempting to go right back to sleep.
When alarm clocks turned digital and cellphones began to feature a single-tap snooze button, it gave everyone the excuse to stay in for an extra 10 or 20 minutes. Now most of us grab the chance to sleep just a little bit longer. We’re so used to having the snooze button within reach it’s impossible not to resist.
If you’re always having difficulty waking up and the snooze button is your best friend, then you could be Sammy Snooze. What really qualifies you as one?
1. You miss out on what’s happening because, well, you were busy in dreamland
SLEEPYHEAD. Missing out on gimmicks or get togethers will really bum you out, especially if the reason was you didn't wake up on time.
A barkada dinner, a date with your significant other or movie night with the family all sound very exciting. But there’s one thing missing: you. Maybe you didn’t wake up on time or your family and friends just couldn’t wake you up. Perhaps it’s time to find a unique way to get you up! (Read: How to kick start your morning)
2. You snooze your alarms
5 MORE MINUTES. More time to sleep also means less time to prep for work or school.
It has become a habit. You wake up, you press snooze then go back to sleep. Next thing you know you’re late for work or school! This is where your cramming skills are put to use.
3. Life motto: "Naps are for champs!”
AT ANY GIVEN TIME. You can sleep sitting down, in the car or in the mall. It makes no difference as long as you can catch up on your Z's.
Be it in the mall, public transport or even the park, you can easily fall asleep no matter what time of the day it is. Who cares if people are looking or taking your photos? You need your siesta.
4. Mundane alarms don’t even make you twitch
ALARMS ARE SET. Everyone else at home wakes up because of your alarm except for you. Fail.
You’re already desensitized to the sound of your alarm and it can’t wake you up even if you have to!
5. Sleep - 1; Waking up on time - 0
SIESTA ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. Not even your boss can stop you from taking naps.
You want to start your day but sleep always wins you over. Completing reports, creating presentations and getting together with friends are on your to-do list but what do you accomplish? Close to none. You say, “That can wait. I just need 30 more minutes” even if it’s already taking away from your activities for day ahead.
If any of these sound familiar and you are guilty of more than one, you just might be like Sammy Snooze.
But who is Sammy Snooze and what does it take to wake him up?
Find out at Robinsons Ermita on Nov 16, Sunday. It might take the whole day to wake up Sammy Snooze so drop in to see the activities.
