Buses, road crashes: What you need to know

MANILA, Philippines – 6,266 bus units were involved in a road crash in 2014.

According to latest data from the MMDA’s MARAS (Metro Manila Accident Recording and Analysis System) Report, buses rank 8th among the actual number of vehicles involved in a road crash in 2014.

The truth is that most bus “accidents” on the road are often preventable. The initial burden lies on bus operators, who ensure the roadworthiness of their units and the capability of their drivers. Government agencies enforce laws and regulations to determine cause of error and sanction those at fault. Passengers need to be cautious, cooperate with authorities, and report any unusual behavior during the ride immediately.
