MANILA, Philippines — To better serve the needs of its constituents, the City Government of Muntinlupa is leading the way toward building an inclusive and connected digital city as it recently deployed an upgraded version of the Muntinlupa Care Card (MCC) Plus powered by PayMaya. This makes the MCC, the country’s most advanced citizen ID card.

Through the new MCC Plus card, Muntinlupa residents will be able to easily receive cash benefits and allowances from the city government as well as use it for payments and to avail of rewards.

Beyond just promoting shopping, Muntinlupa’s cashless program is a push towards ensuring true and sustainable financial inclusion at the grassroots level.

Muntinlupa City first introduced its MCC Plus card powered by PayMaya in May 2017. Now with the upgraded MCC Plus, the city government took into account the different unique needs of its constituents and deployed three variants: one for students, one for senior citizens, and one for adults and small business owners.

Aside from receiving funds into their MCC Plus cards, Muntinlupa residents will also be able to use their accounts to pay for goods and services in at least 5,000 small businesses and beneficiaries of the Joint Resources Financing Program zero-interest loan of the city. The establishments will be equipped with PayMaya QR as a payment method.

Moreover, the residents can also avail of free rides to the e-Jeepneys plying the city by simply tapping their MCC Plus cards into the terminals found inside the vehicles.

“MCC Plus is currently the most advanced citizen card because it brings so many benefits to our constituents, from availing of health services to receiving their scholarship funds, and even getting free rides around the city. This partnership with PayMaya will open a whole new world of opportunities for our constituents in the growing digital economy,” said Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi.

“For technology to be truly beneficial, it has to be inclusive, and we’re glad that Muntinlupa City is among the most trailblazing city governments in the country to have realized this early on. We congratulate Muntinlupa City for being one of the first, and now one of the most advanced, adopters of cashless technologies that will truly empower their citizens,” said PayMaya Philippines President and CEO Orlando B. Vea. PayMaya is the digital financial arm of PLDT and Smart’s Voyager Innovations.

Cashless convenience for citizens

All over the country, residents of cities like Balanga in Bataan, Malolos and Baliuag in Bulacan, and Malabon and Valenzuela in Metro Manila, among others, are realizing the empowering benefits of equipping their citizens with citizen ID cards that are capable of doing cashless transactions anytime, anywhere.

Aside from enabling them to transact within the city, these cards linked to their PayMaya accounts can also be used to shop online and in-store, to pay for bills, and even to buy prepaid load from all networks using the PayMaya app available at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
