MANILA, Philippines – We have so much to look forward to in 2016.
We are electing a new set of national leaders, and now, more than ever, we are in a position to truly call for and choose the leader we want.
It’s not just a new head of office that will spur the transformation. Changemakers from all sectors – global businesses, start-ups, and small communities – are also learning to harness the power of big data and technology for greater good. Through information and communications technology (ICT), they are able to create solutions to problems like lack of clean water, transportation, and even economic divides.
We can’t help but be hopeful that this will be the year of positive change. Last March, the Philippines was one of 150 countries who committed to achieving sustainable development goals by 2030: to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and curb climate change.
This year, we don’t want to rely on a handful of visionaries to make things better. We want to challenge every Filipino – including you – to do their part.
Ask yourself: how do you imagine the Philippines in the next 12 months? How about in the next 15 years? What do you think should be done now, to address the issues that we hope to fix by 2030? What’s your wish list of innovations for a developed and prosperous nation?
We hope to start the year with an assertive mindset – that with cooperation and the right tools, wonderful things are possible.
