MANILA, Philippines – Wordello, a play on “bordello,” is an evening of poetry reading, spiced up by tarot card readings, body calligraphy, performance art, book art, book and furniture sales and kinbaku or the Japanese art of rope bondage. This fundraising event by the Likhaan Foundation, a foundation that has been supporting scholars since 1998, happens on March 5, 2016 at 5 pm., in Green Sun along 2285 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City.
Inspired by New York’s Poetry Brothel, Wordello is an immersion in a live poetry experience with hopes of heightening the passion of literature lovers and awakening the interest of the dispassionate. How better to do so than inside the salon of a lush Parisian bordello, replete with brocades and velvets, furs and feathers, glass and crystal.
The design department of ABS-CBN spins its magic to transform the lounge of Green Sun into a bordello as literati and accomplished poets: Butch Dalisay, Krip Yuson, Jing Hidalgo, RayVi Sunico, Vim Nadera, LIRA, Peachy Paderna, Lolita Fansler, Toff de Venecia, Deus Sex Machina, Words Anonymous, Claire Miranda, Franz Pantaleon, Asha Macam, Monique Obligacion and Karen Kunawicz take turns delivering incantations to cast their spells.
Beckoning and tempting from dimly lit corners selling their wares are booksellers: UP Press, UST Publishing House, Anvil Publishing, and design store: Firma. While a body calligrapher, tarot card reader, book artist and Japanese rope bondage artist work their wizardry to further enchant. There is nothing left to do but submit. – Cecile Lilles/Rappler.com
