Call for applicants: 11th National Youth Parliament
The National Youth Commission (NYC) announced February 19 the opening of applications for the 11th National Youth Parliament (NYP) slated this June 1 to 4, 2016 in Iloilo City.
Started in 1996, NYP is a biennial gathering of the country’s youth leaders whose aim is to craft policy recommendations to serve as government’s guide in policy and program development.
“We are excited to join our youth leaders tackle youth issues that continue to hound them. What is unique about this gathering is its no holds-barred discussions and debates. NYP gives our young people the chance to meaningfully participate in governance, particularly in crafting policies and programs for inclusive youth development,” shares NYC Chairperson Gio Tingson.
Through the years, NYP has been instrumental in the advocacy for adoption of youth-centered legislation. NYP as a consultative mechanism allows creative and innovative ways for young people to participate in the national decision making processes of the government.
Around 200 youth leaders representing different sectors and regions are expected to participate.
“Once again, the country’s brightest and most passionate youth leaders get together to share ideas and gain valuable insights and networks that will aid them in youth development efforts. NYP showcases the true spirit of the Filipino youth, one of commitment and selfless devotion to nation-building,” ends Tingson.
