SMD 2016: #TayoPH calls for positive conversation in Iloilo
On June 30, Ilonggos will share experiences of how social media has become an instrument for social change at Dojo 8 Coworking Space

ILOILO, Philippines – Every day has become a social media day for Filipinos, as the technology has become a common ground for the animated exchange of ideas, critiques about current events, opinionated discussions, and a venue for networking and marketing.

On June 30, the Philippines will join in the global celebration of Social Media Day (SMD 2016) with the theme #TayoPH. In Iloilo City, movers, shakers and shapers will come together to share experiences of how social media has been used effectively, and how it has become an instrument for social change.

“We at Dojo 8 Coworking Space Iloilo are taking the lead in providing a venue for the Social Media Day in Iloilo City, in order to gather people to discuss the significance of social media in our daily lives,” said Kyra Ann Dianon, community manager of Dojo 8.

“We are hoping that the #TayoPH gathering will help transform all the negativity that has flooded our feeds the past months, and transform it into a positive conversation, which will direct us back into our productive use of social media,” stressed Dianon.

#TayoPH is envisioned to unite people on Social Media Day with a call to stand together to rebuild, reconnect, reboot, and re-friend. It is a day set aside for netizens to celebrate social media’s triumphs and invoke its potential in making social change happen.

“Social media empowered people, hence, we believe that it continues to hold the power of bringing people together, in bridging gaps, in crossing boundaries, and in merging divides. It has been a facility of people from all walks of life and it has been effective in giving voice to the voiceless,” added Dianon.
