#PanatangMakabayan: Are you ready to pledge for change?

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Panatang Makabayan: The Pledge for Change of the Filipino People is a nationwide social media campaign that will be executed on July 1, 2016 through social media platforms. This campaign, implemented the day after the oath-taking of the new administration, encourages all Filipino citizens to join through the simultaneous change of Facebook profile pictures along with statements that will answer the question: How can I contribute to help the Philippines’ new administration in achieving the change for our nation? A template for the profile picture will be provided in the Panatang Makabayan Facebook account and partner organizations by June 25, 2016. Citizens will also be encouraged to use the hashtag #PanatangMakabayan across social media platforms.

The aim of Panatang Makabayan is to unite Filipinos and be part of the positive change for the country. “Change will only happen if we want to be part of it. This begins with following traffic signs and pedestrian lanes, throwing trash in its proper place, reading articles before sharing them—doing things we think are little can make a big impact,” Ms. Anna Oposa, co-founder of the Save Philippine Seas and changemaker says.

Panatang Makabayan is founded by a group of young leaders who aims to encourage all citizens to be involved in nation building and recognize their significant role and value to societal change. 

The campaign is seeking partner organizations from the media, government, private sector, and civil society to disseminate information and participate in the campaign.
