MANILA, Philippines – On the second day of the Philippines Editors Lab, participants are set to present their projects to a jury of media and disaster  experts.

Beginning Thursday, July 7, Rappler, in partnership with the Global Editors Network, gathered about 9 teams representing major media organizations and schools in the country to develop digital tools for journalists.

The theme of the two-day hackathon is “Crisis Reporting in the Philippines.”

During the Editors Lab Conference, each team is given 5 minutes to pitch their news app prototypes.

Participating groups

Each team is composed of a journalist, a web developer, and a graphic designer tasked to create news prototypes such as apps, interactive visualizations, games, widgets, or even new features for their websites.

The participating media organizations are the following:

  • SunStar
  • SunStar SuperBalita Tabloid

  • Visayas State University Web Team

Communication students from various journalism and communication schools will also attend the conference.
