MANILA, Philippines – It was a competitive race as 45 children from Metro Manila’s top schools battled it out in the first ever Alphabee Spelling Contest. The event was held at the Greenbelt 5 Mall’s Amphitheater last October 12.
Child participants were divided into 2 categories (Category 1: ages 8-9 and Category 2: ages 10-11) and were supported by parents, relatives and their school community members as they stepped on stage to show their spelling skills. Sparked by a natural curiousity, the large crowd of mall-goers was also able to witness the competition unravel.
Alphabee founder Maiki Oreta says: “We’re looking to foster and promote both healthy competition and excellence in spelling and this event gives the kids that unique opportunity to experience both. We look forward to holding the Alphabee Spelling Contest annually, so that more and more kids can participate and compete.”
