MANILA, Philippines – For helping Worldwide Fund for Nature Philippines spread environmental solutions to local and foreign audiences, Rappler was named the green group’s Media Partner for 2013.
Past recipients of the recognition include Discovery Channel, the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and ABS-CBN.
Rappler has worked with WWF-Philippines ever since the grounding of a US Navy minesweeper in Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in January 2012. Rappler and the environmental watchdog collaborated to highlight the tragedy that damaged more than 2,300 square meters of the reefs in the UNESCO World Heritage site.
A string of joint projects followed, including:
- a special feature for WWF’s Earth Hour 2013
- pieces on climate change, renewable energy and the Manila Bay reclamation issue
- articles on WWF’s campaign to save the critically-endangered tamaraws of Mindoro
- the debate on keeping wild animals in captivity
- the controversial marine aquarium trade in the Philippines.
Rappler will receive the award during WWF Philippines’ Partner’s Night on November 12 at the Ayala Museum in Makati City. – Rappler.com
