MANILA, Philippines – About 143 Cadet and Senior Girl Scouts from 57 councils participated in GSP’s 1st National Gathering of Girl Representatives from November 29 to Dec 3, 2013, at the Ating Tahanan National Program and Training Center, Baguio City.
The gathering empowered the representatives to be effective leaders in answer to the theme “Timek. Tingog. Tinig. Hundred Voices of Girl Scouts in Action.” The national gathering encouraged the delegates to speak their minds and hearts out through their advocacies.
Salud A. Bagalso, MD, GSP national president told the participants at the start of the gathering: “Be the voice of all the girls in the world who could not speak up for themselves. Educate yourselves about the issues that affect you and take to heart the lessons you learn over time. These experiences will shape your attitude toward life and will help you become better persons.”
The 5-day event was composed of 5 categories.
“Whisper” was meant to acclimatize the participants to the weather and allow them to settle down.
“Soliloquy” introduced the girls to different advocacies, which included plenary sessions on Millennium Development Goals and Techno Speak, a tour of the Philippine Military Academy, and Inspirational Talk.
“Speak Your Mind” inspired the representatives to know the Girl Scouting International linkages and their advocacies. The plenary sessions in this category included Girl Scouts in Nation Building, International Opportunities, Post 2015-International Day of Girls, Disaster Risk Management, Project Life Long Learning, and International Food Festival.
“Shout Out!’’ included advocacy visits and plenary sessions on Synthesis and Processing, Action Planning, workshop and Women Icon Night.
On the last day, the girls were given a chance to visit different tourist spots in the city through the “Huff and Puff” activity.
The planning team was composed of cadet GS Kyla Patrizze Pernes, chairperson; cadet GS Precious Joyce Alzate, vice chairperson; Sr GS Demie Jan Flor Fresco, secretary; cadet GS Shamah Bulangis, asst secretary; cadet GS Daphne Kyara Marie Aligarme, public relations officer; cadet GS Rachel Megan Aglaua and cadet GS Katrina Mae Lerios, business managers and techno patrol-in-charge; cadet GS Fara Princess Cervantes, guider-in-charge; Angeli Monique Siladan and Michelle Alvarez, young adult facilitators.
The Program Division headed by Program Director Ms. Ginnie Oribiana provided the direction and execution of the event.
