Gathering one million volunteers, the Bayani Challenge 2014 aims to be the most massive showcase of volunteerism the Philippines has ever seen

MANILA, Philippines – After Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the Bohol earthquake and the Zamboanga siege, millions of Filipinos are left in need and without hope for full recovery. What can be done to help them?

Gawad Kalinga’s Bayani Challenge 2014 (BC) aims to address the rehabilitation of these disaster hit areas in 9 weeks. Calling on volunteers from all over the world, BC hopes to mobilize 1 million volunteers – its largest target to date.

From April 9 to June 12, volunteers will be rebuilding homes and schools, planting trees, conducting clean-up drives and health missions  – spreading the message of hope in the phrase “walang iwanan” (leave no one behind) to all those affected.

The missions will be conducted in Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga.
