The Youth for a United World invites you to join the "WARAY ngaRUN," a fun run event in Tacloban City on June 28, 2014

MANILA, Philippines – The Youth for a United World invites you to join the “WARAY ngaRUN,” a fun run event in Tacloban City on June 28, 2014.

The day will start with the WARAY ngaRUN, a 7k-running and 14k-biking event followed by Solidarity Street Fest featuring exhibits, fair, bazaars, shows, and competitions.

The celebration will be capped with a concert dubbed “Solidarity Festival: Music, Lights, Colors” with artists from Tacloban and Manila, whose aim is to uplift the spirits of the Tacloban people.

The events will be held in Balyuan Ampitheater, Tacloban City.

The Youth for a United World is a group of young people of different ethnicities, nationalities, culture, and religious beliefs but are united by the desire to build a more united world using every available means to bridge divisions among all generations, backgrounds, and levels to make humanity into a family where personal identity is honored.

WARAY ngaRUN, which was derived from the waray-waray phrase “waray ngaran” – meaning “nameless” – is open to all Filipinos and non-Filipinos. It seeks to:

  • Remember the lives of the many nameless victims of Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda
  • Honor the unsung heroes, the many groups and individuals who helped and are continuously helping the survivors
  • Bring continuous awareness to the needs of various devastated areas
  • Strengthen people’s spirit to start again and keep moving forward
  • Involve the youth as front liners in the rebuilding of people’s lives

All proceeds of the event will be donated to the START AGAIN PROJECT, a project of the Y4UW which aims to help rebuild communities in typhoon-affected areas in the Visayas regions with a 7-point plan: roofing for schools, school supplies drive, Yolanda memorial, potable water systems, higher education programs, soup kitchen, and medical missions.

The organizers of this event are victims themselves, most of whom lost their houses and even some friends and loved ones during the typhoon.

But as victims of typhoon, the Youth for a United World of Tacloban feels the need to help their fellow Taclobanons, so that together, they can rebuild their lives. They also want to thank all the people who have helped them and gave them hope when they had nothing.
