Japanese and Filipino artists to hold art show at Museo Pambata

MANILA, Philippines – Childhood Artifacts, an exhibit of new works by Japanese and Filipino artists, opens on August 21, Thursday, at the Museo Pambata with the support of the Japan Foundation Manila.

The show will feature the works of Aba Lluch Dalena, Atsuko Yamagata, Aze Ong, Charlene Bayani, Kayo Nagata, Lisa Ito, Marie Ikura, Mayuko Fukumoto, and Sinag de Leon.

The exhibit will highlight the participating artists’ own recollections and representations of childhood objects and play: objects, sounds and images that stand as starting points in learning how to create.

With diverse forms ranging from video installation to paper art, from crochet sculptures to painting on textile, the exhibition hopes to recreate the sense of whimsical wonder that springs from one’s early years.

Incorporating images of traditional toys and contemporary objects from both Japan and the Philippines, the show also outlines similar or parallel aspects from the cultures of both countries.

The exhibition opening will be at 2 pm with performances by Japanese koto player Yu Miyoshi and the participating artists. A papercut workshop for children will be held on August 24, Sunday, at 1 pm.
