MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City (QC) Government, through the Department of Public Order and Safety, advised motorists and commuters to brace for heavy traffic in some QC areas in anticipation of the festivities over the weekend for the celebration of QC’s diamond jubilee.

The following streets will be closed to traffic on Saturday, October 11:

  • Roosevelt Avenue from Del Monte Avenue up to Pitimini Street and Commercial Drive Center
  • NS Amoranto Street from Mariveles Street to Labo Street (District I)
  • Commonwealth Avenue from Sandiganbayan towards COA in District II
  • portion of Anonas Road from Lanzones Street to Pajo Street in District III
  • Tomas Morato from Timog Avenue to Scout Fuentebella
  • Maginhawa Street from Makadios to Masaya Streets in District IV
  • Quirino Highway from Regalado Avenue to Belfast Street in District V
  • Visayas Avenue northbound from Congressional Avenue to Tandang Sora Avenue

Vehicles taking Tomas Morato from E.Rodriguez, Kamuning, A. Roces to Timog Avenue, turn left at Sct. Fuentebella on the northbound lane and at Sct. Tuazon toward Timog on the right side of the northbound lane.

For the Maginhawa Street closure, all vehicles coming from CP Garcia, Kalayaan Avenue, may take University Avenue and then turn right at Commonwealth Avenue, U-turn at Commonwealth straight to the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The 6 lanes of Quirino Highway from Regalado Avenue to Belfast Street will be used for the jubilee street party. As such, only 3 lanes of Quirino Highway will be opened to vehicles from Lagro going to Belfast Road and to Novaliches.

Meanwhile, with the closure of Visayas Avenue northbound from Congressional Avenue to Tandang Sora Avenue, motorists are advised to take Visayas Avenue towards Tandang Sora or turn right to Congressional Avenue to Tandang Sora. Motorists may also take the zipper lane from Congressional Avenue to Tandang Sora Avenue.

Motorists can also expect traffic along Elliptical Road on Sunday, October 12, as the Quezon Memorial Circle will become center stage for the Misa ng Bayan, parade of floats and the Zumba Outdoor party.

The westbound lane of Quezon Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 pm to 7 pm to give way to the procession of the Our Lady of La Naval at the Sto Domingo Church.
